CryoLife Signs Exclusive Agreement to Distribute Medafor's MPH® Technology

MINNEAPOLIS, April 25, 2008 - Medafor is pleased to announce that it has signed an exclusive agreement with CryoLife, Inc., Atlanta, Ga., to distribute Medafor's patented MPH(r) polysaccharide hemostatic technology under the private label Hemostase MPH beginning May 1, 2008.

Under the agreement, CryoLife will have exclusive distribution rights within the United States to the cardiac surgery and vascular surgery markets, and outside the U.S. to cardiac, vascular and general surgery with the exception of orthopaedic and ear, nose and throat surgery (excluding Japan and China).

"Hemostase MPH gives surgeons the ability to quickly control active surgical bleeding, making it the perfect complement to CryoLife's BioGlue(r) product line, which is much stronger and provides both tissue reinforcement and sealant capabilities," said Steven G. Anderson, president and C.E.O. of CryoLife.

Gary Shope, C.E.O. of Medafor, Inc., said, "We are pleased to be working with CryoLife as a major distribution partner. CryoLife is a world leader in its chosen areas and its strength in sales, marketing and distribution in the cardio and vascular fields should provide great impetus to Medafor's market penetration."

Hemostase MPH differs from other surgical hemostatic agents in that it is instantly ready to use, requiring no mixing, no addition of patient blood or other components and no special handling or storage conditions.  Pre-clinical evaluations, clinical studies and surgical use have shown the hemostatic capabilities of MPH to be comparable to the current popular choice of surgical hemostatic materials while its unique formulation allows for rapid absorption. The hemostat is fully absorbable with studies substantiating no trace of the material at the wound site within 24 to 48 hours of application, and because it degrades rapidly, it does not promote infection.
