Arista® Absorbable Hemostatic Powder with MPH Technology
Arista® AH is indicated in surgical procedures (except neurological and ophthalmic) as an adjunctive hemostatic device to assist when control of capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding by pressure, ligature, and other conventional procedures is ineffective or impractical.*
Arista® AH is FDA approved, CE marked*, and licensed with Health Canada.
Arista®AH has been shown to safely and effectively accelerate the intrinsic blood clotting cascade with no inherent risk of adverse events.
Arista®AH is a sterile, absorbable hemostatic powder consisting of Microporous Polysaccharide Hemospheres (MPH®), Medafor's patented blood clotting technology, derived from purified plant starch.
When applied directly to the source of bleeding, Arista®AH begins clotting the blood on contact, achieving complete hemostasis, in most cases, within minutes.
Position the Arista®AH applicator and apply powder to the bleeding site.
Unlike other surgical hemostats which claim to be "ready when you are" but which can require minutes to hours of preparation, Arista®AH requires:
- NO mixing
- NO additional components
- NO assembly
- NO special storage conditions
Arista®AH begins clotting the blood on contact and achieves complete hemostasis in a matter of minutes. The flowable particles provide complete coverage on both rough surfaces and in small, hard-to-reach spaces.
Arista®AH is a natural composition, synthesized from a purified plant polymer and free of all biological components. As such it is non-toxic, non-irritating, non-hemolytic and non-mutagenic. It is non-immunogenic, fully biocompatible and readily adsorbed in tissue in 24 to 48 hours. Arista®AH reaches its maximum volume immediately upon contact with blood or other fluids. No adverse events occurring in clinical studies were judged by the Data Safety Monitoring Board to be related to the use of Arista®AH.
Unlike other surgical hemostats, Arista®AH:
- is fully and safely ABSORBABLE – within 24 to 48 hours (minimum absorption time for other surgical hemostats is typically 3-8 weeks)
- contains NO HUMAN OR ANIMAL components
- DOES NOT SERVE AS A NIDUS FOR INFECTION OR GRANULOMA FORMATION
- is ready INSTANTLY, requiring NO PREPARATION TIME
- is CELL SAVER COMPATIBLE
* CE mark for Arista®AH includes neurological use. Neurological use in the US is under review. Please see linked IFUs above.
Arista®AH is indicated in surgical procedures (except neurologic and opthalmic) as an adjunctive hemostatic device in the control of capillary, venous and arteriolar bleeding.

MPH® (Microporous Polysaccharide Hemospheres) represents a new process for effecting rapid hemostasis at wound sites, even in the presence of profuse bleeding. The technology consists of an engineered biopolymer, microporous particle, with a controlled pore size, which is designed to act as a sieve to dehydrate the blood and thus serve to accelerate the natural blood clotting process. Using this technology, blood clotting has been demonstrated to initiate within as little as 30 seconds to one minute. Applied topically, MPH® gels rapidly with blood components with no tissue irritation, creating a protected environment for hemostasis. The particles, or “beads,” are derived from plant-based biomaterials with an extensive history of use in humans. The final packaged material is stable, bio-inert and sterile. The following is a summary of the benefits of the technology.
MPH®: Features and Benefits
- Bio-inert — no inherent risk of disease transmission
- Contains no human or animal proteins — hypoallergenic
- Effective even in areas of profuse bleeding
- Stable base materials with extended shelf life
- User-friendly, one-step application with no mixing
- Rapid time to wound hemostasis as shown in initial animal studies
- Cost effective
